No major snow is predicted, but some cold and wet precipitation is predicted to fall in Prince George's County over the next two days.
While no major snow event is forecasted in Prince George’s County this week, there is some wintry weather in our future. According to the National Weather Service, rain mixed with snow and sleet is likely tonight, switching to all rain by 4 a.m. Lows of around 35 degrees are predicted and little to no accumulation is expected. Friday’s weather is predicted to be rainy and foggy, with highs around 45 degrees. The weather will turn cooler and breezy, with winds increasing to 20 to 25 mph after midnight. NWS gives a 30 percent chance of snow overnight, again with little to no accumulation.

Faculty, staff and students in Prince George's County's public schools get to sleep in a bit today, courtesy of the overnight winter weather. In an email alert, school officials announced that offices and schools will be operating on a two-hour delay today. As region deals with snow, federal workers can take unscheduled leave or telework.
As the Washington region deals with the first real bout of winter weather this morning, the federal government is giving its employees the option to stay home. Federal agencies are open, but federal workers have the option to take unscheduled leave or an unscheduled telework day, according to a message from the Office of Personnel Management distributed by the notify Me Prince George's alert system.

Forecasters aren't sure whether the county will see any significant snow—or just rain.
Prince George's County and much of the region could be in for another dose of winter weather this weekend, depending on how an approaching storm shapes up. The National Weather Service warns that a system moving in from the southeast "will likely impact portions of the Mid-Atlantic Saturday and Saturday night." "At this stage, rain or snow is possible depending on the storm track," it adds. The latest forecast for the county calls for a mix of rain and snow starting Saturday morning, then switching over to just rain by early afternoon. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Montgomery and Prince George's counties until 1 p.m. today. The alert calls for a mix of freezing rain, sleet and rain, with possible accumulations of less than one inch of sleet and under a tenth of an inch of ice. Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing, which can cause treacherous road conditions. In a statement released by the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) administrator Melinda B. peters urges motorists to "keep their speeds down as lighter traffic can result in increased travel speeds," and "to exercise extreme caution today." A mix of rain and snow likely will turn into all flakes later on tonight.
Be on the lookout for the first snow of December tonight as we’re likely to see a mix of rain and snow turning into all snow after 1 a.m. You should be OK heading into work because it’s all supposed to be over during the dark hours, but the National Weather Service is predicting snow accumulation of less than one inch. As of now, we’re not likely to see any more snow this week, but it’s a good time to be prepared with a good mini snow shovel, blankets and a bag of salt or sand in the trunk of your car.
