Two Officers Injured in 'Serious' College Park Crash

Baltimore Ave. was partially shut down following the accident.

Update, 12:56 p.m.: U.S. Route 1 has been reopened in both directions, according to University of Maryland police. Original article: Police and fire officials are urging motorists to avoid the area of U.S. Route 1 and Campus Drive following a "serious" police-involved crash Monday morning. According to Prince George's County fire spokesman Mark Brady, the accident occurred in the 8100 block of Route 1 just north of the gates to the University of Maryland. Brady tweeted that two law enforcement officers on motorcycles suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and were transported to a trauma center. Arrests Made in Early Morning College Park Robbery

Police say three people assaulted a trio of UMD students before taking their valuables and fleeing.

Authorities say six people were taken into custody Saturday after an early morning robbery in College Park.  According to University of Maryland police, three UMD students were walking in the area of Pontiac Street and Baltimore Avenue around 12:40 a.m. when they were approached from behind by three suspects. The suspects reportedly asked if the students had any money. When they did not respond, the suspects assaulted the students before taking their valuables and fleeing on foot, police said. After responding to the scene, Prince George's County and University of Maryland police conducted a search of the area. UMPD units eventually located one of the students' stolen cell phones and the three original suspects, police said. The suspects …

Two UMD Students Dead, One Injured in College Park Shooting

Graduate student Dayvon Maurice Green took his life after firing on his roommates, killing one.

Editor's note: Early Tuesday morning, two University of Maryland students were left dead and another injured in a shooting on 36th Ave. in College Park. Police say that the gunman, identified as 23-year-old graduate student Dayvon Maurice Green, set several fires around his house before shooting two of his roommates when they came outside. One—Stephen Alex Rane, 22, of Silver Spring—was later pronounced dead, while another suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Green then turned the gun on himself, according to police. Update: Prince George's Responders Send Brave Boy His Christmas Wish

Five-year-old Nathan Norman, who is fighting terminal cancer, is asking for cards from emergency responders.

  Update, Dec. 11, 2:40 p.m.: Five-year-old Nathan Norman is battling terminal cancer. While he's fighting the fight, he asked for Christmas cards from police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel. Prince George's County responders got together to send him their greetings.  Fire and rescue and emergency personnel have been sending Nathan cards and gifts from all across the country, the Nathan Charles Norman blog reports. Update: Suspect Detained in College Park Metro Incident

Transit police took a man into custody around 2:15 p.m., according to Metro officials.

Update, 2:28 p.m.: University of Maryland Police have given the all-clear after a suspect was reportedly taken into custody from Friday's incident at the College Park Metro. According to WMATA, the man had been involved in an attempted armed robbery in a garage stairwell at the station. After a searching for a suspect with a handgun, transit police detained the alleged assailant around 2:15 p.m., WMATA said. Update, 2:07 p.m.: University of Maryland Police say the investigation has been handed over to Metro Transit Police after the suspect "was not located at the scene." Thanks for not keeping us informed, I say that Metro Police, PG Police and UMD police should have notified people that there was an "attempted armed robbery in a garage stairwell at the station." And that the suspect was at large. The UMD shuttle bus had dropped students off at the metro, I missed being on the platform for the 2 minutes that it took me to get money on my farecard.
