The grocery chain Giant Food has partnered with the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation to collect toys for underprivileged children. Giant, based in Landover, Md., also donated $25,000 last week to support children in need across the mid-Atlantic region. Toys will be collected at 170 Giant stores throughout the holiday season. This year marks the second year of a partnership between the two organizations. The county police department's community services division and members of the United States Marine Corps Reserves will host the “Toys for Tots” program this weekend in Prince George’s County. The “Toys for Tots” program collects new, unwrapped toys and gives them out as Christmas gifts to children in need during the holiday season. More than 30,000 toys will be distributed this weekend, a PGPD press release stated. The collection will be held at county police headquarters on Barlowe Road. Hours are: Barry L. Stanton, deputy chief administrative officer for public safety and Chief of Police Mark A. Magaw will be on hand Saturday morning to help distribute toys to participating families.

No good deed goes unpunished! Where do I pick up my free toys? While I'm at it, I'll go buy some things on layaway, and hope that a layaway santa will pay the tab for me! (In all seriousness, if I ever make enough money where I feel I can afford to donate some, I'll do it directly so I can see it go to people who need it, not give it to a middle-man!)   more ›
