I'm Thankful I Won The Lottery

This Thanksgiving Day I'm most thankful for the freebies that came along with my winning lotto ticket.

  The biggest lottery on earth is the one I already won the day I was born; and I'm living off the interest with every turn of the globe. Redskins and Harris Teeter Team Up to Feed Prince George's Families in Need

The Washington Redskins will hand out food to feed 3,500 Prince George's needy families this Thanksgiving today at FedEx Field.

For the tenth year, The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation will provide a Thanksgiving meal for 3,500 needy Prince George's County families Tuesday as a part of their annual Harvest Feast. The foundation teamed up with Harris Teeter, a DC-area grocer, several Redskin alumni, the Hogettes, Santa and more than 200 volunteers to hand out 3,500 turkeys and food baskets. The families had to pre-register and qualify to receive the food. The event is not open to the public. The Redskins have passed out over 818,600 pounds of packaged and fresh food and 285,500 pounds of turkey to families in need since 2003. The children in attendance will get meet Santa and receive gift bags as well. The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s possible to forget an item or two when preparing favorite dishes. Here's a list of places in Greenbelt that will be open on Thanksgiving Day. For pots, pans, cooking trays or even a gravy boat—the Greenbelt Kmart and Target will be open on Thanksgiving and then again on Black Friday. People looking for an easy way out of cooking that Thanksgiving meal will find several restaurants are open in Greenbelt. Looking for ways to volunteer on Thanksgiving? Here are a few opportunities in an around Prince George's County. Click the links for more information and to volunteer.  Community Thanksgiving Valuable Blessings Inc., a Prince George's County based organization, is looking for a variety of volunteers for their third annual Community Thanksgiving. The organization has partnered with Bradbury Heights Elementary School in Capitol Heights and they expect to feed 400 to 600 people on Thanksgiving. The Prince George's County Fire Department offers these tips to reduce the risk of fire and injury when frying a turkey.

Thinking of going a less traditional route this Thanksgiving and deep frying your bird instead of roasting it? According to the Prince George’s County Fire Department (PGFD), the growing popularity of turkey fryers is cause for concern as they have the potential to cause fires and injuries if not used correctly.  If you are deep frying your turkey this Thanksgiving, the PGFD asks that you follow these federal government recommended steps to maximize safety and minimize the risk of fire and injuries:

Thanksgiving Leftovers: What Do You Do With Them?

  Dinner’s done and the food coma is sitting in. Now the question becomes: What to do with all those leftovers? While many say simple reheating is all that’s necessary to have a “day after” feast, others have elaborate recipes for turning Thanksgiving leftovers into gourmet delights. From savory turkey soups to sinfully delicious pot pies and mile-high sandwiches, everyone has their own ideas on what to do with what’s leftover. The Food Network even has an entire recipe collection dedicated to the topic.
