UPDATES - 8:45 p.m. - The storms have largely swept through the Washington, DC region, leaving thousands of residents and businesses without power. Pepco's outage map, as of 8:45 p.m., shows nearly 7,000 customers without power in Prince George's County. Another 7,000 customers in Northeast and Southeast Washington, DC are without power, while a bit more than 500 customers are experiencing outages in Montgomery County. Another roughly 650 Baltimore Gas and Electric customers in northwestern Prince George's County are without power. The National Weather Service reports that a brief tornado was documented during Tuesday's severe weather outburst.
A sprawling storm system kicked up rain, power outages, and 50 mph wind gusts Tuesday as it pushed through Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. Overall, Prince George's County appeared relatively unscathed by the severe weather, with minor wind-related damage reported across the area. But the day was marked by an escalating series of watches and alerts from the National Weather Service, including a tornado warning issued in the afternoon for the northern end of the county. The NWS reports that a brief tornado was documented east of the U.S. 50/I-495 interchange, but damage was said to be confined to uprooted trees and snapped limbs. A hazardous weather outlook predicts severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes for areas east of Interstate 95.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for many areas east of Interstate 95, according to the National Weather Service. Prince George's County and some areas in central Maryland, including Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties are included in a hazardous weather outlook that predicts thunderstorms in the evening and a cold front approaching. Forecasts indicated storms may produce damaging wind gusts of up to 70 mph and isolated tornadoes are also possible.

The National Weather Service cautions that scattered thunderstorms may move through Prince George's County and surrounding areas Tuesday night. While there are no formal warnings or watches in effect, a few storms "capable of producing damaging wind gusts" are possible. Patchy fog is also expected after 2 a.m., with an overnight low of about 73°. On Wednesday, more scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected after 8 a.m., with a daytime high of about 89°.

Wednesday's stormy weather may give an encore performance Thursday if the forecast from the National Weather Service holds. Today's hazardous weather outlook calls for thunderstorms in Prince George's County and surrounding areas in the afternoon and evening, some of which may produce damaging wind gusts and flash floods. The worst of the weather is expected to roll in sometime after 1 p.m. Rainfall amounts of up to 3/4 of an inch are possible by late tonight. Can't get enough downpours? Fear not: showers and thunderstorms are back in the forecast for Friday, too.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect through 9 p.m. across Greenbelt, MD, and much of the region. According to the National Weather Service, a storm system moving through the Mid-Atlantic Friday afternoon and evening has the potential to produce "damaging wind gusts and locally heavy rainfall."
