Greenbelters Weigh In On GHI's Vote Against K-9 Kennel

Greenbelters spoke up about GHI's vote against an officer building a K-9 kennel in Greenbelt, but so did out-of-towners.

Greenbelters came in on both sides in Patch's poll on a K-9 kennel in Greenbelt, but it's difficult to tell their exact numbers, as it appears that people outside Greenbelt took the poll as well. On Jan. 26 (GHI) voted against Greenbelt Police Officer Robert Defibaugh's request to build a K-9 kennel in his yard. As of Wednesday, out of a total of 256 poll takers, 202 (or 78 percent) stated their disagreement with GHI's decision. On Thursday, Patch posted a new poll (below) that allows everyone to participate, but includes city of residency in its choices. Some comments below the first poll came from out-of-towners, who noted they were residents of places such as College Park and Berwyn Heights. Some of the commenters were also convinced …

The voting choices really needed another option, which I would have chosen: "I support K9s and police officers; however, in GHI the location of their kennels should be considered on a case by case basis, determined by adjacent walkways and immediate neighbor concerns." I believe that is what happened in this incident.   more ›

Dewey and Rambo Are First Greenbelt K-9 Champs

The winning team of Master Police Officer Dewey and his canine partner, Rambo, took home first place for Greenbelt during the (USPCA) Region III patrol dog certification trials.

Master Police Officer Dewey and his canine teammate, K-9 Rambo, became the first Greenbelt Police K-9 team in history to win first place during the U.S. Police Canine Association (USPCA) Region III patrol dog certification trials. Dominating the entire field during the individual competition, the Dewey-Rambo duo outperformed 39 handler - dog teams. They had the double honor of also becoming the first Greenbelt K-9 handler - dog team to win the Cahill Award for combined apprehension and obedience. The USPCA held their certification trials in Charles County on April 30 through May 1, which included individual and group competitions. The overall Greenbelt Police K-9 unit team came home with high accolades as well, placing second in the team …
