Meet Bart and Eddie, two sweet, young poodle-mix pups ready to face the world together.
Meet Bart and Eddie, two adorable, sweet poodle-mix pups who are a little more than 1 year old and weigh about 15 pounds. Bart and Eddie are brothers and best buds who complement each other and have been a source of security in each other’s lives. Bart is more energetic and inquisitive, and always wants to be by your side. Eddie is more reserved and calm, but has a sense of independence about him. Both are very sweet, gentle souls in search of love and security. Bart and Eddie were rescued as part of a cruelty and neglect case, and were taken in by Animal Control when their owner was incarcerated. They were living in a small, run-down hotel room and were being used for breeding by their owner, who would sell their puppies. They were kept …

Looking to add some puppy love and energy into your life? Meet Butters, a sweet and playful 1-year-old terrier pup in search of his family.
Hi Guys! My name is Butters. I'm a sweet and energetic 1-year-old terrier mix weighing about 45 pounds. I was rescued from a shelter in Rockingham County, VA, after my owner surrendered me. He said he no longer had time to take care of me, and that I had grown larger than he expected. The shelter was concerned about me, and called Mutts Matter to help because I was going a little crazy being cooped up in there with very little outside time or exercise. I was just not cut out for the chaotic environment of a shelter, and I'm so glad someone came to my rescue. As a young pup, I’ve already had to face the world on my own and have learned that it can be a scary place. You see, I'm a very social and affectionate dog, and I really need the …

Ricco is a playful, affectionate Miniature Pinscher mix who will make someone a great companion.
Hi, guys! My name is Ricco and I’m a spunky Min-Pin mix in search of my person. I’m two years old and only weigh about 15 pounds, so I’m a little guy, but I’ve got a lot of spirit. I was rescued out of a shelter in northern Virginia after my owner surrendered me with my pug sibling because he was working long hours and could no longer take care of us. This whole experience has been really tough on me. I didn't do well being abandoned in the shelter and was terrified of all the noise and commotion. My pug brother has already been adopted, so I sit here and wait for my new family. Luckily, my new foster mom, Lisa, really gets me. She lives in a quiet condo and there’s not a lot commotion or activity in her home. I do best in a calm, laid-…

Sweet Monty was saved by a local teen from life on the streets and is looking for his new family.
Monty is a true love bug. He’s a sweet, affectionate and playful pit-mix who just wants to be loved and be part of a family. He’s a handsome boy who’s only a year old and weighs in at about 60 pounds. His body is still playing catch-up with his big, blocky head, and he has a big, warm bully smile that lights up when he sees you. Monty’s story is one that demonstrates the best and worst in people. He was found running free in an abandoned parking lot near a major highway by Lauren Bradford, a Good Samaritan and local senior at Fairfax High School. Lauren’s parents were away for the weekend, and she took it upon herself to take this sweet pup in, canvass the local neighborhoods and post filers and ads on Craigslist in hopes of finding Monty…

Sweet Carolina is an affectionate, playful and good-natured Basset Hound mix in search of a loving home.
Meet sweet Carolina, an adorable Basset Hound/Border Collie mix with a friendly disposition and an engaging spirit. Carolina is not your typical laid-back Basset Hound; she still has a nice mix of youthful energy and playfulness to share with her new family. She’s only about a year and a half old and weighs 28 pounds, has a sweet smile, big brown eyes, cute floppy ears and a gorgeous, shiny black-and-white coat. She is a friendly, affectionate pup who would be great with kids and other dogs, and is always up for a new adventure. Carolina was rescued out of a shelter in rural South Carolina after being seized by animal control and removed from her home. She was diagnosed and treated for heartworm, which is transmitted by mosquitos and could…

Meet sweet little Owen, a beautiful Sheltie looking for a loving family.
Hi! My name is Owen. I feel so fortunate to be here and to have the opportunity to start a new life. I’m a beautiful Sheltie with a gorgeous coat and a sweet, delicate smile that matches my personality. Mutts Matter thinks I’m around four or five years old. I currently weigh about 25 pounds, but I could still stand to put on a few pounds. I was rescued from a neglectful home where I was ignored and mistreated, but my life has changed dramatically over the last few weeks. I’m grateful to be safe, well cared for and living in a loving foster home. I was in rough shape when I came into rescue. My mouth was so infected I couldn’t chew my kibble, and I would bury my food or try to crush it with my paw so I could eat it. I was underweight, had …

Goldie Locks is sweet, playful, energetic and eager to please.
Since the loss of power in our region prevented so many from meeting Goldie last week, we are featuring this lovable pup again. We hope your power is back on, or will be very soon. _______ Hey there. My name is Goldie Locks, but my rescue friends call me Goldie. I’m a Golden Retriever-Chow mix and weigh about 45 pounds, but still have some filling out to do. I’m only a year old and very much a puppy—sweet, playful, energetic and eager to please. I was rescued out of a shelter in Maryland, after being picked up as a stray. It's hard to believe that no one came looking for me, but here I am ready to find my new family and start my new life. Mutts Matter set me up with a seasoned foster mom, who started working with me right away on basic …

A few months ago we featured Max, an adorable senior Pug found abandoned on the streets, starved and in need of immediate medical attention. Little Max had survived a very tough life, most likely the victim of a puppy mill or backyard breeder. But he still had a gentle, sweet nature, and a great attitude towards people. Max’s story is one that demonstrates the possibilities of second chances. It proves dogs from all situations, in all conditions, can flourish with some TLC. Back in February, Mutts Matter received an S.O.S. from a shelter in Delaware which had found a senior pug dumped on the side of the road in the dead cold of winter. He was not eating, needed more medical attention than they could afford to give, and they didn’t think …
