The animals have been living in temporary shelter in New York City.
The Washington Animal Rescue League is doing its part to help pets displaced in October's Hurricane Sandy, according to an NBC Washington report. The WARL will be taking in eight dogs and five cats. The animals previously had been living in a temporary shelter in New York City and arrived in Washington on Monday, according to the report. The animals were all strays, abandoned by their owners or surrendered.

The county Animal Management Division is offering $100 off the adoption of cats and dogs all month long.
Christmas could come early for some shelter animals thanks to the Prince George’s County Animal Management Division (AMD). Through the month of December, AMD is inviting residents to adopt dogs and cats at reduced fees as part of its “All I Want for the Holidays is...You.” “Fulfill the holiday wish of a homeless animal at the Animal Services Facility by giving them the gift of a loving home,” Rodney Taylor, associate director of AMD, said in press release. “I encourage you to visit the Facility this holiday season to find the perfect pet for your family.” Dog adoption fees will be $100, a savings of $100; and cat adoption fees will be $45, also a $100 savings, according to the press release. Sweet Monty was saved by a local teen from life on the streets and is looking for his new family.
Monty is a true love bug. He’s a sweet, affectionate and playful pit-mix who just wants to be loved and be part of a family. He’s a handsome boy who’s only a year old and weighs in at about 60 pounds. His body is still playing catch-up with his big, blocky head, and he has a big, warm bully smile that lights up when he sees you. Monty’s story is one that demonstrates the best and worst in people. He was found running free in an abandoned parking lot near a major highway by Lauren Bradford, a Good Samaritan and local senior at Fairfax High School. A few months ago we featured Max, an adorable senior Pug found abandoned on the streets, starved and in need of immediate medical attention. Little Max had survived a very tough life, most likely the victim of a puppy mill or backyard breeder. But he still had a gentle, sweet nature, and a great attitude towards people. Max’s story is one that demonstrates the possibilities of second chances. It proves dogs from all situations, in all conditions, can flourish with some TLC. Back in February, Mutts Matter received an S.O.S. from a shelter in Delaware which had found a senior pug dumped on the side of the road in the dead cold of winter.
