What Do You Recommend at New Deal Cafe?

It's the mecca for good music and Mediterranean food, but what is your favorite item on their menu?

Each week New Deal Cafe in Greenbelt offers residents and people around DC a place to go and hear unique bands. But their food is also what draws a crowd. What would you recommend on their menu? The restaurant touts their lamb shank and the baked salmon with shrimp sauce, but their shawarma is also popular. Let us know what you would recommend off their menu in the comments section. Arts Reception in New Deal Café Sunday

Meet stick artist Paul Downs and talk to colorist and painter Nicole Black.

  The New Deal Café is hosting a public reception for stick artist Paul Downs and for painter and colorist Nicole Black from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Meet the artists and enjoy something from the wine and beer or  as well. Downs and Black's work will remain on exhibit in the café until Nov. 5, with Black's art decorating the front and Down's creations adorning the back room. Music on Tap at the New Deal This Weekend

Music of the Grateful Dead, jazz, bossa nova, bebop, electric cello, and more—take a look at what the New Deal Café has in store for this weekend.

  Greenbelt favorites and regulars will take the New Deal Café stage this weekend along with special guests the Wharf Rats on Friday and Djesben with Wytold on Saturday. Friday, Sept. 8, the Wharf Rats, a Grateful Dead jam band, will perform from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Wharf Rats aim to stay true to the spirit and music of the Grateful Dead while also mining the deep veins of other music genre, according to its My Space site. Saturday, Sept. 9, Djesben returns to the New Deal Café Saturday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will be joined by special guest Wytold on electric cello. Djesben plays originals, jazz tunes, bebop, bossa nova, rock covers and improvisations. Wytold performs electric cello arrangements with progressive world rhythms. …

Jazz, Bebop, Bossa Nova and Electric Cello at New Deal Saturday

Djesben returns to the New Deal Café stage promising surprises and a special guest—Wytold.

Djesben returns to the New Deal Café Saturday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and will be joined by special guest Wytold on electric cello. Djesben promises some special surprises in an epic End-of-Summer show, on it's Facebook invite.  Djesben plays originals, jazz tunes, bebop, bossa nova, rock covers and improvisations. And it's no secret that the New Deal and Djesben share a mutual affection. Wytold performs electric cello arrangements with progressive world rhythms and was recently chosen as an artist in residence for the Strathmore, according to Reverbnation, which also posts samples of Wytold's music. The New Deal Café generally requires no cover charge for entertainment, but encourages patrons to make donations to the performing artists. …

Oshun Gaia and KIVA Perform at New Deal Tuesday

Fresh from a sold out performance at Strathmore, artists bring their music and chants to the New Deal's stage in Greenbelt, MD.

Just back from a soldout tribute to songbird Eva Cassidy at Strathmore, Amikaeyla Gaston joins Ariana Lightningstorm as Oshun Gaia performs at the New Deal Café Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. KIVA also will take the stage with Oshun Gaia, after its successfual pairing as backup to Gaston at the popular Strathmore tribute, says New Deal Music Coordinator Amethyst Dwyer. WTOP Features New Deal Café as Music Venue Winner

Following Greenbelt's "community living room" running laps around Washington music venue greats, WTOP reports its story.

The New Deal Café in Greenbelt received the most votes and is named "The Best" in WTOP's Top 10, according to WTOP. Being featured on the station's website and on the air Tuesday is part of winning. WTOP aired its program featuring the New Deal Tuesday morning on 103.5 FM and live on WTOP's website. The café's music coordinator, Amethyst Dwyer, tells WTOP that she was amazed, shocked and incredibly pleased to learn the café had won, WTOP reports. "It goes to show that you don't need a 2,000-seat amphitheater or a multi- million-dollar complex in order to showcase high quality music," she says, according to WTOP's feature story. New Deal Café Slamming Top Music Venues in Radio Contest

With only two days to go, the New Deal increases the distances between "the little café that could" and metro-area music venue giants.

The New Deal Café in Greenbelt, MD, is a nose-bleed distance out of reach of the major league competition in WTOP's Best of Washington local music venue contest. With names like Strathmore, 930 Club, Ram's Head Tavern, and Wolf Trap as WTOP Top 10 competitors, as of Thursday morning, the cafe is in the lead with 370 votes. Its closest competitor, running at second, is the The Birchmere with 126 votes. Elated at the New Deal's showing, its Music Coordinator Amethyst Dwyer has taken to calling it—"the little café that could."
