Metro Warns of Weekend Delays on Green, Red and Orange Lines

Trains will single track it between Greenbelt and College Park on the Green Line.

Metro anticipates delays for some riders on the Green, Red and Orange Lines this weekend while it performs work, which will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through closing on Sunday.  Green Line trains will single track between Greenbelt and College Park, with every other train terminating at College Park instead of Greenbelt. Metro says riders traveling to or from Greenbelt Station should allow 10 additional minutes of travel time. Buses are slated to replace trains on the Red Line between Fort Totten and Forest Glen. Silver Spring and Takoma stations will be closed. Metro says riders traveling through the work zone should budget for an additional 30 minutes of travel time. Trains will single track between Stadium-Armory and …

Northeast End of Green Line Closes Memorial Day Weekend

Four Green Line Stations will be closed starting Friday night.

Beginning Friday at 10 p.m., Metro's website states there will be no Green Line trains between Greenbelt and Fort Totten in either direction. This condition will continue over the weekend and throughout Memorial Day on Monday, while Metro installs new switches. Four stations will be closed during this time: Although busses will replace trains between Greenbelt and Fort Totten, Metro recommends that customers who normally drive and park at Greenbelt—consider using New Carrollton Station on the Orange Line as an alternate. Shuttle bus service will operate on two routes, according to Metro. They are: Local service between all the closed stations between Greenbelt and Fort Totten. Metro recommends that customers using local shuttle bus service…

What's Up With the Green Line: January 6 - 8

Green Line trains will be sharing track this weekend in Metro work zones.

After the holiday break, Green Line track work is back on the schedule. From 10 p.m. Friday through closing Sunday, Green Line trains will share one track between Georgia Ave-Petworth and Fort Totten to allow for rail maintenance. Green Line trains will also share one track between Naylor Road and Branch Ave to allow for fastener renewal. Metro has announced that Green Line trains will operate every 15 minutes. If you're transferring off the Green Line to another line, keep in mind that Red, Blue and Orange lines are also slated for work this weekend. So be on the lookout for work zones on other Metro lines, where trains will be sharing the same track This focuses on Metro's weekend work on the Green Line. The Washington Metropolitan Area …

What's Up With The Green Line: Memorial Day Weekend

On May 27 through May 30, Metro has significant work plans for some of its lines.

We Green Liners should be okay on the Metro during the Memorial Day Weekend, May 27 through May 30, but those of you planning to transfer to the Blue and Orange Lines, with their long list of construction plans -- pack a little patience with you. Red Line also has construction, but the Blue and Orange Lines have the distinct honor of having the longest list of construction since I started writing this report. I've shorthanded some of it for you -- you can thank me now -- and put the very long laundry list of last train times at the end of this report, so you don't have to get bogged down in them, unless you want to read every last departure time on every day at every station involved. What fun! Before we get to the construction breakdown, …

What's Up With the Green Line: Weekend of May 20 through May 22

Portions of Green, Red, Blue and Orange Lines will be single tracking it this weekend.

Red, Blue, Orange, and, yes, Green Lines will single track it in places this weekend from 10 p.m. Friday, May 20, to closing on Sunday, May 22. It's not too late to consider that May 20 is National Bike to Work Day 2011. Looks like the Green Line's sunny construction-free days finally ended. But only a small portion of the line will be single tracking it -- between the Navy Yard and Anacostia stations, while personnel install new track. If you're planning on transferring to other lines, keep a lookout for construction zones. Red Line trains will share one track between Friendship Heights and Grosvenor-Strathmore for tunnel leak repairs and rail fastener replacements. Red Line trains also will share one track between the Takoma and Forest …
