Weekend Road Closures Slated For MD 193 in Greenbelt

It will pay for motorists to budget extra commute time and plan ahead, says highway official.

  The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will close lanes along eastbound MD 193 between 58th and 60th avenues in Greenbelt for concrete bus pad construction beginning 8 p.m. Friday, according to a highway administration news release. The two far right lanes will be closed for much of the weekend and will re-open no later than Sunday at noon, according Christopher Bishop, SHA community liaison for District 3.  The highway administration asks drivers to stay alert—look for reduced speed limits and narrow driving lanes, and to watch out for highway workers. Greenbelt Police Receive 2 Grants to Aid in Traffic Enforcement

Police are getting $37,000 for a variety of road safety purposes.

The Greenbelt Police Department announced that it recently received a $22,000 traffic safety grant through the Maryland State Highway Administration's Highway Safety Office. The grant aims to aid police officers in conducting more traffic enforcement measures to catch impaired and aggressive drivers and motorcyclists. It will also go toward enforcement of seat belt and child car seat use laws. The police also announced receiving an additional $15,000 grant from the Highway Administration’s Motor Carrier Division to perform commercial motor vehicle enforcement activities.
