Update, Sept. 1: Police have identified a body found in Beltsville Neighborhood Park this week as that of Ingrid Lizet Martinez-Alvarez, 22, of the 7900 block of Riggs Road. Authorities said that media reports on the case helped police collect tips from the public and eventually make a positive identification. Those who knew her flooded Twitter and social media sites to express their sorrow at the death of Amber Stanley, who was gunned down by an intruder while in her bedroom.
A gunman entered 17-year-old Amber D. Stanley’s home on Chartsey Street Wednesday night and shot and killed her in her bedroom. Stanley was a senior honors student at Charles H. Flowers High School and according to WUSA9, had dreams of attending Harvard University next year. Police told The Washington Post it’s likely the gunman had planned to kill someone specific because he or she did not take anything from the home and fled immediately after the shooting. However, they said it’s not clear whether the gunman entered the wrong home or bedroom. This past weekend in Prince George's County resulted in four murders and one incident, which has been classified as a justifiable homicide, said Prince George's Police Department (PGPD) Chief Mark Magaw in a news conference on Tuesday. Investigators have concluded that none of the incidents involved random victims and none of the incidents are connected, Magaw added. The following is a timeline of murders, homicide and the non-fatal shootings that occurred over the weekend of March 30 - April 1. On Dec. 22, 2010, 30-year-old Damon Norman Washington was shot in the neck on the 9100 Block of Edmonston Court in Greenbelt. On Dec. 25 of this year, Washington died from his injury at the Gladys Spellman Specialty Care Unit, where he had been a patient since February 2010. Previous to the incident which resulted in his fatal bullet wound, Washington was arrested and charged with trespassing on private property on October 25, 2010. The Maryland State Medical Examiner’s office has classified the death as a homicide, stemming from complications associated with the gunshot injury.
