Alight Dances Past Its Fundraising Goal

It's alight dance theater's first attempt at raising individual donations.

Alight dance theater just surpassed its goal of raising $1,678 through a Kickstarter campaign to fund its special 75th Anniversary production. On Tuesday, alight had 29 backers and $1,725 raised through Kickstarter. "We've never done anything like this before," said Angella Foster, artistic director for alight. In the past, alight has raised funds through measures such as selling merchandise, holding silent auctions, asking board members for contributions and applying for grants— a little has come from ticket sales as well, Foster said. This is alight's fist attempt to gain funding through individual donations, according to Foster. "To be able to say a community of people made it happen is a really exciting part of the project," Foster …

Greenbelt Community Foundation Brings Ideas to Fruition

The Greenbelt Community Foundation presented checks for grant awards at its annual tea on Sunday afternoon.

At its annual tea, the Greenbelt Community Foundation awarded grants for an animated video being created by Greenbelt youth for the city’s 75th Anniversary and for a program that will bring three artists into Greenbelt Elementary School.  They also collected the pledges that provide money for future grants, from an audience of more than 100 that filled the Greenbelt Marriott’s Grand Ballroom on Sunday afternoon. Shayna Skolnik, the designer of Greenbelt’s 75th Anniversary logo — a hand-held seedling — said the logo reflects the foundation’s theme of providing money to people and organizations to nurture their seedling ideas. The logo was displayed at the ceremony. Barbara Simon, president of the Greenbelt Association for the Visual Arts (…

This was a great event and I was honored to be there! Just one correction though. The Springhill Lake Elementary Women's Day program will be on Thursday, March 29th (not March 9th as the article states). But, all the other info about alight dance theater's Hometown Heroes project is correct and we are still working to raise the remaining $1678 we need to bring this project to life for …   more ›

Alight Hearts Greenbelt!

Alight Dance Theater's production, "Truth Be Told," premieres at the Greenbelt Arts Center.

Greenbelters celebrated with alight dance theater after the closing performance of "Truth Be Told" at the Greenbelt Arts Center (GAC) on Saturday. On both nights of alight’s performance dates at the Greenbelt Arts Center, showgoers were treated to gala receptions with delicious local food prepared by Jeremy and Melissa Ehrenreich, as well as a silent auction with goods and services donated by local artists and businesses. Saturday night was even more festive with a post-show People’s Dance Party. The GAC black box theater was turned into a vibrant club scene, with P. McGann, the notorious PH-DJ, spinning great dance tunes. The good news is that Greenbelters can look forward to more People’s Dance Party events in the coming months. And …
