·      When:  Saturday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m.

·      Description:  FREE Health Care Reform Seminar to learn if the Affordable Care Act (ACA) apply to you.

·      Cost:  Free

 Meet Orioles Pitcher Jason Hammel

·      Where:  1200 Sandy Spring Road, Laurel

·      When:   Saturday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m.

·      Description:  Orioles lovers are invited to meet pitcher Jason Hammel and get an autograph for a $10 tax deductible donation to Fidos For Freedom, receive an autograph.

·      Cost:  $10

Kite Making Workshop

·      Where:  College Park Aviation Museum 1985 Cpl. Frank Scott Dr, College Park

·      When:  Saturday, Aug. 24, 1 p.m.

·      Description:  Afternoon at the museum building a decorating your own kite. The $8 workshop fee covers museum admission and the price of one kite kit. Registration required.

·      Cost:  FREE with museum admission.  Adults $4, Seniors (60+) $3, Kids (2-18 years old) $2, and children 1 and under are FREE

 

Back to School Block Party & Backpack Giveaway

·      Where:  Lamont Elementary School, 7100 Good Luck Road, New Carrollton

·      When:  Saturday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m.

·      Description:  Solid Rock Church of Riverdale, Md., is having a block party and back-to-school celebration. Free food, entertainment, backpack and school supply giveaway and more.

·      Cost: Free

 

The Civil Rights Concert

·      Where:  Bowie branch library at 15210 Annapolis Road in Bowie

·      When:  Saturday, Aug. 24, 2 p.m.

·      Description:  Musicians Ken and Brad Kolodner will perform familiar tunes such as “We Shall Overcome,” “If I had A Hammer” and “Blowing in The Wind” with traditional folk instruments. They will also perform music selections by Joan Baez and Bob Dylan. Walt Michael, founder and executive director of Common Ground on the Hill, will lead the audience in singing.

Sunday Sunset Concert

·      Where:    Robert V. Setera Amphitheater at Allen Pond Park. 

·      When:  Sunday, Aug. 25, 7 p.m.

·      Description:  This week the N2N Band R&B/Soul.  Concert goers should bring a blanket or chair. Concerts are canceled in case of inclement weather.

·      Cost: Free

 

FREE Co-op Wine Tasting

·      Where:  121 Centerway Greenbelt

·      When:  Friday, Aug. 23, 4 p.m.

·      Description:  Wine lovers are invited to join the Greenbelt Co-op & Supermarket for a FREE Friday evening wine tasting. Shoppers save $1 on tasting wines.

·      Cost:  Free

A Star-Spangled Summer, War Comes to Mount Welby

·      Where:  6411 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill

·      When:  Sunday, Aug. 25, 12 – 3:30 p.m.

·      Description:  Calling all War of 1812 connoisseurs, American history buffs, and citizens of all ages.  The National Park Service invites you to attend, “A Star-Spangled Summer – The War of 1812 Comes to Mount Welby.” 

·      Cost:  Free
