Springhill Lake Elementary Wins Health Award

Springhill Lake Elementary brought home national recognition for promoting healthy lifestyle choices.

Springhill Lake Elementary School ranks high among Prince George's County schools that have made efforts to increase healthy standards, as recognized by The Alliance for a Healthier Generation. At the National Healthy Schools forum in Little Rock, Ark., Monday, the Alliance honored 16 of the county's public schools for promoting health among students and staff.

The Alliance bestows bronze, silver, gold or platinum national recognition awards. The schools that get the Alliance's attention, revamp their meal service and physical activity programs to meet or exceed the standards set by the Alliance's Healthy Schools Program.

Dr. William Hite R. Hite, Jr., Superintendent of Schools, praised the winning schools for their efforts to encourage healthy lifestyle choices, saying their programs benefit young people at public schools and influence students future choices.
