Speak Out: Should School Start Later at Greenbelt Middle?

The decision has caused a bit of controversy.

Prince George's County Schools decided to delay Greenbelt Middle School's start time in May, but the plan has caused a bit of controversy.

According to schools spokesman Max Pugh, the decision to start the school day 45 minutes later at 9 a.m. was made to "reduce the number of late busses," The Gazette reported.

“Staggering school bell times allows us to reuse a bus for another load of students to a different school,” Pugh told the Gazette. “Most Prince George’s County school buses transport three schools, both a.m. and p.m.”

That means the school day would end at 4:20 p.m.
