School's Out: It's Kids First Day Without Books

Greenbelt kids and parents shared what they're doing this summer as they said goodbye to school on Friday, June 17.

In the world of our local kids, today is the first day of summer. Children all over Greenbelt heard the school bell buzz for the last time on Friday, signaling the end of books and the beginning of swimming pools and morning TV in pajamas.

A few minutes before she closed the door on another school year, Kimberly Seidel, principal at Greenbelt Elementary School, said "I think we worked hard, and now it's time for some hard fun in the summer."

In the waning minutes of books, tests and classrooms, parents and kids from Greenbelt Elementary School stopped to talk with Patch about their summer plans and reminisce on another school year gone by. Take a look at our photos to see what's up with home folk for the summer.
