Roosevelt Hires Former Kennedy Coach

Former Silver Spring head football coach, Randolph Warren, is headed to Eleanor Roosevelt High School.

Tom Green, Eleanor Roosevelt’s athletic director and head football coach, has confirmed the hiring of former Kennedy head football coach Randolph Warren.

Warren, a Greenbelt resident, will join Green’s coaching staff as an assistant this fall.

“I knew he was a very good coach,” said Green, “and if I had an opportunity to hire him on staff I would.”

The Silver Spring school fired Warren following a 2010 season in which the Cavaliers failed to win a game. Kennedy went 4-26 during Warren’s three-year tenure, registering back-to-back 2-8 seasons in 2008 and 2009.

The Raiders’ football program is traditionally one of the best in the state and has produced numerous Division I college and NFL players over the years.

“I’m looking forward to it, definitely,” said Warren. “I’ve seen them through the years.”

The Raiders finished 9-3 last season and have high expectations for the 2011 campaign. “I know I’ll be helping out and working with the running backs,” said Warren.

Prior to his stint as Kennedy’s head coach, Warren was an assistant for one season at Surrattsville where he coached current Maryland running back Davin Meggett. He was also an assistant at Suitland for eight seasons and spent four seasons as the head coach at Oxon Hill.

At Oxon Hill, Warren coached current Atlanta Falcons defensive lineman Lawrence Sidbury.

Warren and Green coached together at both Surrattsville and Suitland and have become good friends over the years.
