Roosevelt Graduates 572 Seniors, Many Receive Accolades and Scholarships

Proud parents and families gathered in the Comcast Center Wednesday as 572 seniors from Eleanor Roosevelt High School graduated.

According to a guidance counselor at the school, 93 percent of the students are attending either a four-year or two-year college.

Several seniors received awards:

  • 3 National Merit Scholars
  • 5 National Achievement finalists
  • 3 Hispanic scholars
  • 31 National Merit commendations
  • 30 National Achievement outstanding students

Niko Schultz was the class' valedictorian and Hannah Russell was the class' salutorian.

So where are the students heading next year? One student was admitted to the Naval Academy and 175 students were admitted to the University of Maryland.

Of those soon-to-be UMD freshmen, 19 received Banneker/Key scholarships, 13 have president scholarships and six received dean scholarships.

The class also three students were named Meyerhoff Scholars at University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Four other students received prestigious scholarships -- two students were named Gates Millenium Scholars, one earned the Posse scholarship and one received a scholarship named after the old Redskins owner— Jack Kent Cooke.
