Greenbelt Hosts Wednesday Meeting on Proposed School Changes

A proposal for boundary and grade structure changes in Prince George's County is up for public discussion before a vote in early 2012.

Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) is scheduled to host another round of public hearings to provide information on Superintendant William R. Hite's proposed boundary and grade structure changes.

The first hearing in this round will be held in on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Up for discussion are a potential shifting of sixth grade into middle schools and creating a new Talented and Gifted program site at Greenbelt Middle School.

Proposed changes include adjusting boundaries for specialty programs and arranging for students in a neighborhood to attend the same schools.

After the public hearings, the changes will go up for a vote before the Board of Education in early 2012, according to PGCPS spokesman Briant Coleman.

Members of the public may register to speak at the Greenbelt Middle School hearing for up to three minutes by contacting the Office of Pupil Accounting and School Boundaries at 301-952-6300 by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
