117 PGCPS Students Earn French Mastery Diplomas

The students earned the recognition after completing a four-part exam.

More than 100 Prince George's County students received recognition for their mastery of the French language from the French Embassy and the Alliance Française earlier this month.

According to the Prince George's County Public Schools, 69 students were from the Robert Goddard French Immersion, 38 students attend John Hanson French Immersion and 10 are from Central High School.

“We are so proud of these students for their high level of achievement in their studies of the French language,” said Dr. Alvin L. Crawley, Interim Superintendent of Schools. “Mastery of a second language is a highly-marketable skill, and will serve students well in both college and careers.”

Students took a four-part test of French-language abilities for non-native speakers of French administered by the International Centre for French Studies for France's Ministry of Education on June 3, according to PGCPS.

"I congratulate students for their hard work, parents for their generous support of our program, and the faculty who prepared these students to succeed,” said Carmen Henninger, World Languages Immersion Instructional Specialist for PGCPS. “Thank you especially to the French Embassy and Alliance Française for their continued support of our efforts in providing opportunities for students to showcase their language skills.”
