Report: County Council Suspends Residents from Speaking Out on New Casino

Community-wide meeting Wednesday did not include public comments, the Gazette reported.

After announcing that residents would be able to share concerns about Prince George’s County’s new casino location at a community-wide meeting this week, the council conducted a short meeting July 10 with no opportunities for public comment, The Gazette reported.

Approximately 300 people were inside the Oxon Hill Library for what became a standing-room only meeting, the newspaper reported. Even more residents watched the presentation through the library’s windows, the Gazette reported.

District 8 County Councilman Obie Patterson told the audience that the meeting was only an update on the site selection process, not a public hearing, according to the newspaper.
