Program Open Space Money Will Now Help Greenbelt Youth Center, Aquatics Club

But one councilman thinks the money should be used for something else.

Greenbelt mayor and council voted Monday to change how they will spend the Program Open Space money allotted for the city, according to The Gazette.

The $125,987 awarded to the city from Prince George's County's $4,715,249 of Program Open Space funds will be spent on replacing the gym floor and HVAC system at the Greenbelt Youth Center and upgrades like a new roof to the city's aquatics center, assistant city manager David Moran said, according to The Gazette.

The money was initially allotted for an expansion of Springhill Lake Recreation Center and improvements at Buddy Attick Park, the newspaper stated.

But Councilman Rodney Roberts thinks that the money shouldn't be used for development, but instead to protect nature and help the city acquire open space, The Gazette reported.
