Prince George’s County’s “Give Drugs a Bad Rap Contest” Deadline Nears

Saturday, July 8 is deadline to submit original music to PG Health Department contest.

 

The Prince George’s County Health Department is running a “Give Drugs a Bad Rap” music contest in coordination with County Executive Rushern Baker, The Maryland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Administration, the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention and 93.9 WKYS-FM.

With a top prize of having your original song professionally recorded and debuted on stage during Russ Parr’s Splash Bash at Six Flags America on August 11, the PG Health Department wants you to help “Give Drugs a Bad Name” by creating an original music video telling the world why drugs and alcohol are not part of your life.

To enter the contest, people age 13-24 need to follow five steps:

  1. Learn about the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol on the Give Drugs a Bad Rap website.
  2. Listen to and use one of the available three beats in your song.
  3. Use at least three of the official Give Drugs a Bad Rap messages in your song.
  4. Upload your song by Sunday, July 8, 2012
  5. Promote your song to friends and family and have them vote for it.

Prizes will be awarded to 39 entries:

  • 35 winning entries will receive a prize pack that may include t-shirts and gift cards
  • 10 semi-finalists will have their songs professionally recorded and included in local radio commercials
  • 3 finalists will appear on-stage at Russ Parr’s “Splash Bash” at Six Flags on August 11
  • 1 grand prize winner will be crowned “Prince George’s Music Star” and receive a $300 visa gift card.
