Prince George's Closes 2 Shelters Following Sandy's Departure

One shelter remains open in Prince George's County.

The county shelters opened during Hurricane Sandy at Charles H. Flowers and Gwynn Park high schools are closed, Prince George's County Office of Emergency Management announced Tuesday night. The College Park shelter will remained open Wednesday until further notice, it added.

The open shelter is state operated and located at University of Maryland's Ritchie Coliseum at 7950 Baltimore Ave. It is pet-friendly and allows evacuees to shelter along with their pets, but does not allow animals to be dropped off without their owners, according to Carol Terry, a spokesperson for the county Department of Environmental Resources.

The county's Office of Emergency Management asks residents to report emergencies to its 24-hour 911 Call Center.
