NASA Goddard Helps Endeavor Deliver Payload

The shuttle Endeavor lands after delivering a payload that wouldn't have been complete without work that went on right here in Greenbelt.

Greenbelt-based NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) has much to celebrate, after the shuttle Endeavor safely landed on the third rock from the sun early Wednesday.

Endeavor carried the the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), which Goddard contributed to and the ExPRESS Logistics Carrier (ELC-3), a payload platform primarily designed, manufactured, assembled and tested by NASA Goddard.

Endeavor returned from its 25th and final space flight and completed its 122 milionth mile, after Endeavor's crew delivered the ELC-3 and the AMS instrument to the International Space Station.

The AMS will search the cosmic darkness, delving into dark matter, cosmic rays and antimatter, as it seeks to understand mysteries of the universe.

If you hear antimattter and say, "What?" This GSFC animated flyby of the Milky Way galaxy shows an antimatter plume.

You can also go to NASA's website and watch a very cool animation of thunderstorms making antimatter particle beams. Turn on your speakers and listen to the thunder.
