After Cpl. Timothy White came on as the Greenbelt Police Department's public-private partnership officer in Franklin Park, crime in the apartment complex was reduced by 133 incidents, down 24 percent from the previous year, Craze reported.

To address crime, Craze said that White worked with the complex's management to develop stricter rental requirements in order to prevent known offenders from moving in and to evict troublesome tenants already there.

White also coordinated more than 300 sweeps of vacant apartments, arresting several criminals who had been there and recovering some stolen goods, Craze said.

Before Fieldstone Properties purchased the property, the apartment complex was deteriorating, not only in the condition of the property, but because of crime, according to Craze. Both had an impact on the quality of life at the complex.

In addition to the crime reduction measures White took, he also let people in the community know about county and city resources available to them. He coordinated two community events to get the word out, according to Craze.

One was the apartment complexes' first , where local merchants allied with law enforcement officers and with Beltway Plaza Mall. The other was a block party, which Craze said was attended by hundreds of citizens who not only played games, ate and danced, but received information about resources.
