Maryland Approves $86,000 Grant for New Greenbelt Playground

Funding for a new playground with custom play structures is coming to Greenbelt, MD.

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and the Maryland Board of Public Works have approved $86,000 to upgrade a Laurel Hill Playground. The funds will come through a grant from Program Open Space.

The grant was approved at the board's meeting Wednesday and will go to a Laurel Hill playground with custom play structures designed for children ages 2-12 and for ADA accessible safety surfacing, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

As of Thursday, Assistant Greenbelt City Manager David Moran said the city had not received the notification letter, but confirmed it did apply for an approximately $86,000 grant to take two relatively small playgrounds, one located behind 12 Court Hillside and the other by 2 Court Laurel Hill, and combine them into one large playground located in an area of open space between the two existing playgrounds.
