Greenbelt Holds Blood Drive Tuesday, Donations Down Nationwide

In the face of a 10 percent drop in donations, the Red Cross is holding a blood drive in Greenbelt, MD.

The Greenbelt Recreation Department is sponsoring a Red Cross blood drive Tuesday, June 26, on the second floor of the Greenbelt in City Council chambers. It runs from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Blood Donations are down more than 10 percent in the country, leaving the Red Cross 50,000 pints below its normal reserve, according to its website.

As of Monday, 45 people have scheduled appointments in Greenbelt, said Rebekah Sutfin, Greenbelt Community Center coordinator. There are still some appointments left, and they will take walk-ins, she added.

For more information call Sutfin at (240) 542-2056 or the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Donors will be entered into a raffle to win a four pack of Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith tickets for a FedEx Field concert on Aug. 12.
