Greenbelt Animal Shelter Holding $1 Adoption Event through July 31

Save up to $149 on adoption fees this month.

Summer tends to be one of the slower times for pet adoptions, according to Celia Craze, director of Greenbelt’s Department of Planning and Community Development, and the shelter is currently full of dogs and cats waiting to go to good homes.

The shelter understands that some people may be interested in adopting a cat or dog, but find the fees to be a barrier. To overcome that obstacle, the department is hosting a “$1 Adoption” event for the entire month of July.

“We recognize that there are potential losses of revenue to the city with this program but if this helps people be able to adopt an animal from the shelter, I say, 'Great!'” remarked Craze. Regular fees for adoption range from $100-$150 for dogs and $75 for cats.

Due to reduced staffing, the Greenbelt Animal Shelter is open by appointment only, but the staff can accommodate most requests. Call 301-474-6124 to make an appointment.
