GHI Board Appoints McHugh to Fill Vacancy

Four applicants had applied for the position.

The Greenbelt Homes, Inc. (GHI) Board appointed Catherine McHugh on Wednesday to fill the vacancy left after Laura Moore's resignation.

Four applicants had applied for Moore's seat and were interviewed Wednesday night, after which the board made its decision. The candidates included Bob Snyder, Mara Hemminger, Susan Ready and McHugh.

"It was a very close vote," GHI Board President Tokey Boswell said. "All of them were extremely competent and good candidates."

Boswell said the board took many factors into consideration, such as personal expertise, the candidates' interests, and their history of involvement in Greenbelt activities. It also considered how much time they had available.

"In the end we decided to appoint Catherine McHugh," Boswell said.

McHugh's first board meeting will be March 8. Her appointment will last until GHI's next election, a two-day event that begins with its annual membership meeting on May 17. Board members are elected by GHI for two-year terms.

This year four seats will come up for election, plus Moore's vacant seat, making it five. The elected candidate with the least votes will need to run again in 2013.

Boswell said that the board encouraged all of the candidates to apply for elected positions in May.

Tokey Boswell, Bill Jones, Chuck Hess, Ed James, Diana McFadden, David Morse and Irv Wartell were present for the interviews.
