Former County Executive Johnson Federally Indicted, Porter Resigns and Firefighters Use Jaws of Life on Overturned Vehicle

A look at the past week's headlines.

The week began with a federal indictment and ended with a man sent to the hospital after his vehicle overturned.

Greenbelt Middle School in a letter to parent’s last Friday. Porter just began her role at the middle school this year and was part of the major improvements generated from the school. Her last day is Feb. 25, after that she will head to her home state of North Carolina to care for her ailing mother.

Then, Monday afternoon.  To summarize the counts, the indictment stated one count of conspiracy, three counts of federal program bribery, three counts of Hobbs Act and one count of witness and evidence tampering. A court date has not been set yet.

Also in police news, for the Prince George’s Police Department to move to the forensics division. Liberati will be replaced by Hector Velez, the current assistant commander of the Bureau of Patrol.

Firefighters from Berwyn Heights and Greenbelt helped a man out of his overturned vehicle after a crash on Hanover Parkway early Friday morning. Berwyn Heights Rescue Squad 14 had to cut the roof off of the van to free the driver who then was transported to a local hospital.
