Two Drivers Transported to Hospital Following Chicken Truck Accident on Beltway

The trailer full of chickens overturned leaving fuel from its gas tank on the roadway, according to fire officials.

Two drivers were transported to a local hospital in the aftermath of an outer loop accident on the Capital Beltway involving a sedan and an overturned tractor-trailer with chickens, according to the Maryland State Police.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. near the exit for the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Three northbound lanes were blocked, but have been cleared, according to police, who say the ramp leading to the outer loop is still closed.

Although Maryland State Police initially reported that there was no fuel spill, Prince George's County Fire Department spokesman Mark Brady said that 150 gallons of diesel fuel from the truck's gas tanks did spill on the roadway, but it was cleared by HazMat.
