Twelve-Year-Old IDs Vehicle in Possible Greenbelt Abduction Attempt

Police are looking for the driver of a white truck who allegedly tried to coax a girl into his vehicle in Greenbelt West.

A 12-year-old girl has positively identified the truck in a police photo as the alleged suspect's vehicle in a possible abduction attempt, according to officer Kelly Lawson, Greenbelt police spokesperson.

A man with dreadlocks in a white truck allegedly tried to coax the girl into his vehicle, according to Greenbelt police. Last Thursday, police released a photo of a truck that the suspect may have been driving.

"The man a number of times repeatedly asked her to come over to the vehicle and she resisted," said Capt. Thomas Kemp, Greenbelt police spokesman.

The girl was waiting for a ride to her middle school at about 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, in the area of Springhill Drive and Edmonston Road, said Kemp, who added that her school was not Greenbelt Middle School.

Children and even older teens should be aware of their environment all the time, Kemp later advised the community, "and if something doesn't seem right, they should pick up on that instinct and not dismiss it."
