Some Greenbelt Speeding Tickets To Be Refunded

Cameras at Hanover Parkway and Cherrywood Lane were improperly certified.

Drivers caught cruising above the speed limit on Hanover Parkway or Cherrywood Lane earlier this year might find a refund check in their mailboxes from a paid speeding ticket.

Two of Greenbelt’s speed cameras, one in the 7700 block of Hanover Parkway and another in the 5900 block of Cherrywood Lane, were not properly certified by Brekford, the company that maintains and calibrates the cameras, according to the Greenbelt Police Department.

Drivers who paid speeding tickets after traveling through those areas will receive a full refund, police said. Citations that have not been paid will be voided and related MVA records will be cleared, according to police.

In addition, Brekford will compensate the city for all lost citation revenue, police said.

Affected drivers who traveled the 7700 block of Hanover Parkway from Dec. 27, 2012 to Jan. 27, as well as affected drivers who traveled the 5900 block of Cherrywood Lane from Jan. 19 to Feb. 19 will receive a letter explaining the issue and the police department’s response.
