Driving under the influence of alcohol/driving while impaired by alcohol

A 40-year-old Fort Washington man was arrested on Sept. 1 at about 12:20 a.m. near Kenilworth Avenue and Greenbelt Road.  He was charged with DUI and DWI.

A 20-year-old Greenbelt man was arrested on Sept. 1 at about 12:30 a.m. near Kenilworth Avenue and Paint Branch parkway. He was charged with DUI and DWI 

A 32-year-old Bowie man was arrested on Sept. 1 at about 3 a.m. in the 7800 block of Kenilworth Avenue. He was charged with DUI and DWI.

A 31-year-old Hyattsville man was arrested on Sept. 2 near Kenilworth Avenue and Greenbelt Road. He was charged with DUI and DWI.

Robbery

A person was sitting in the Food Mart parking lot, in the 5700 block of Cherrywood Lane, on Sept. 2 at about 3:45 a.m. when two men people got out of a vehicle nearby. They approached the victim, punching him several times in the face, and stole money from his pocket. The two then left in a black, four-door Ford Taurus with Maryland tags, which was driven by a third person. The victim was treated at Washington Adventist Hospital.

Attempted robbery

A victim was leaving an apartment building in the 6100 block of Breezewood Court on Sept. 9, at about 5:20 a.m. when two people approached him, one announcing that it was a robbery. The victim punched one of the two – there was a fight and the victim received minor cuts from what he believed was a knife. The two men ran away and the victim was treated on the scene for minor injuries.

Attempted burglary

The door to a home in the 9100 block of Springhill Lane was tampered with on Sept. 4 at about 6:50 p.m. Police say no one entered the home.

Stolen bike

A 14-year-old was arrested for stealing a bike from the 8200 block of Caning Terrace on Sept. 1. The suspect was released to a parent while awaiting action by the Juvenile Justice System.

Assault

The victim was walking along the street near Ora Glen Drive and South Ora Court at about 6:45 a.m. on Sept. 2 when a vehicle approached her from behind. She saw someone point a gun at her from the passenger window. She ran into the woods and the car took off. The vehicle was a gold SUV with Washington, D.C. tags.

Robbery

A woman was walking to a residence in the 8100 block of Bird Lane when a man with a gun approached her and demanded her bag. After he got the bag, the man ran off. He was described as a black man, 18-to-20-years-old, 5-foot-7-inches to 5-foot-9-inches weighing 160 pounds. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Vandalism

Someone vandalized a Redbox video machine in the 7900 block of Goodluck Road on Sept. 2 at about 4:45 p.m.

City-wide automotive crimes

Two 20-year-olds were arrested on Sept. 4 near 490 Kenilworth Avenue and face motor vehicle theft, resisting arrest and other charges after a police officer saw a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant that had been reported stolen to the Metropolitan Police Department.  The officer followed the Galant to the 6200 block of Annapolis Road in Landover Hills where it drove into a curb while trying to get away. The car was disabled and the driver and a passenger tried to run from the police, but they were caught after a brief chase.  One suspect is from District Heights, the other from Capitol Heights. 

Tires were punctured and the paint was scratched on a vehicle parked in the 7500 block of Greenway Center Drive on Sept. 3 

Money was stolen from a vehicle in the 600 block of Greenbelt Road on Sept. 4 

A VIP motor scooter was recovered in the 5000 block of Sheppard Parkway S.W. in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 4 by the Metropolitan Police Department. The scooter had been reported stolen in August of 2011 from the 6900 block of Hanover Parkway.
