Residents Displaced After Fire Rips Through Lanham Home

The fire swept through the home Saturday afternoon.

Residents have been displaced from their Lanham home because of a fire Saturday.

According to county fire spokesman Mark Brady, 40 firefighters and medics were called to 9317 Kimbark Avenue around 4:45 p.m. to battle an intense blaze.

Brady said firefighters search the basement for one unaccounted for resident, but conditions got worse and the firefighters had to withdraw.

The unaccounted for resident was in a neighbors home and was not injured, he reported. It took firefighters 30 minutes to extinguished the fire in the one-story single family home with a basement, Brady added.

Investigators believe the fire started outside and in the back of the home, although the cause still remains under investigation. Damages were estimated at $75,000, Brady said.
