Prince George's Crime Watch: Child Sexual Assaults, String of Robberies

A man charged with sexual assault allegedly lures girls out of Value Village stores; police say a common suspect is involved in a string of robberies; and police ID a murder victim, according to recent county police reports.

 

Police are investigating multiple child sexual assaults, a string of robberies, and an alleged murder, among a number of crimes in the county, according to recent police reports from Prince George's County.

Police Charge Bowie Man In Alleged Sexual Abuse of Children

Michael David Brochu, 62, of Bowie, has been charged with sexually abusing a 10-year-old boy, a family friend who was visiting him in his home from April 1, 2011, to June 30, 2012, according to a Prince George's County Police Department (PGPD) investigation. In addition Brochu is charged in two other sexual assaults of young boys in Bowie, one involved a family member and the other a boy who he had temporary supervison of, police reported. Police Investigate Riverdale Murder

Forty-year-old Alvaro Aguirre-Herrera of Riverdale was fatally shot in Riverdale on Wednesday. Officers responded to the 6200 block of Kenilworth Avenue at around 4:04 p.m., to discover the victim inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the county police's Homicide Unit at 301.772.4925.

Police Search For Common Suspect in a String of Bank Robberies

Police are investigating a string of bank robberies with a single suspect. PGPD said the most recent robbery occurred at the Wells Fargo Bank in the 5800 block of Silver Hill Road in District Heights at around 1:22 p.m. One of the other robberies linked to the latest one occurred March 21, 2012, at the Capital One Bank, 6300 block Marlboro Pike, District Heights. Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call the CID-Robbery Unit at 301-772-4905 as soon as possible. Police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for the tip that leads to the arrest and indictment of the suspect responsible for these robberies.

Child Sex Assault Suspect Allegedly Lured Girls Out of Value Village

Police arrested 25-year-old Charles Asuming Amofa of Chillum in the sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl in Lewisdale. Amofa allegedly lured her out of the Value Village Store located in the 2200 block of University Boulevard on Monday. Police also said he was involved in a previous kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl also allegedly taken from a Value Village Thrift Store on July 9. Amofa took the most recent girl to the West Park Playground in the 2500 block of Chapmen Road and attacked her there, police reported. Amofa has been charged with kidnapping, a first degree sex offense and other related charges, and has been remanded to the Department of Corrections on a no bond status, according to police. Anyone with information is asked to call the PGPD Child and Vulnerable Adult Unit at 301-772-4930.
