Police Run a Preliminary Investigation on Greenbelt Road Accident

A preliminary investigation indicates an injured Hyattsville man failed to stop at the red signal on Greenbelt Road, according to the Greenbelt Police Department.

Capt. Thomas Kemp of the Greenbelt Police Department said the Hyattsville man injured in Monday's accident on Greenbelt Road remains in serious condition, "but he is still with us."

A preliminary investigation indicates the Hyattsville driver of a 1995 GMC Safari van was headed westbound on Greenbelt Road (Route 193) when he ran a red signal at Kenilworth Avenue (MD 201), according to Kemp. A Honda and a third vehicle heading east on Greenbelt Road were turning left, and the Honda hit the van broadside and pushed it into the curve, Kemp added, saying the van flipped and landed, resting on the driver's side.

A third vehicle was in close proximity to the accident but in no way contributed to the accident, Kemp said.
