Police Charge Greenbelt Teen as an Adult in Multiple Armed Robberies

Nico Jaleel Robinson is being charged as an adult. "The gun is definitely an important factor," a police official said.

A Greenbelt teenager is being charged as an adult in connection with two armed robberies and an attempted robbery of three University of Maryland students in College Park, according to Prince George's County police.

Police charged Nico Jaleel Robinson, 17, with armed robbery as an adult for several reasons, according to Lt. William Alexander, spokesman for the Prince George's County police.

"The gun is definitely an important factor," Alexander said.

Robinson's age was also a consideration since being 16 or older is a factor the courts historically take into consideration, according to Alexander.

Police are charging Robinson with allegedly robbing a male University of Maryland student at gunpoint at around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 10, near the 9100 block of Baltimore Ave. The student suffered minor injuries and a family member took him to a local hospital, according to police.

Robinson is also charged in two other incidents on the same day.

In a second incident, police allege that Robinson attempted to rob a second male Maryland student at gunpoint at around 8:30 p.m. in the 8200 block of Baltimore Ave. Police are also charging Robinson in the alleged armed robbery of female Maryland student at gunpoint at around 8:35 p.m., also in the 8200 block of Baltimore Ave.

Robinson is being held on a $200,000 bond  on armed robbery and related charges, and more chatges are likely, police said.

But his friends and family swear "he's a good kid." They've never stared down the barrel of his gun, I'd think.
