Police Blotter: July 1 - 7

The following arrest information was supplied by the Greenbelt Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

July 1: There was a drug arrest on the 6000 block of Greenbelt Road at 11:58 p.m. Spencer Caridieo Atwell, 19, of Clinton, Daniel Thomas Cruz, 19, of Greenbelt, and Marcus Orlando Currie, 19, of Washington, DC, were all arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, after a traffic stop. All three suspects were released on citation pending trial. 

July 2: Maurice Tyrone Newell, 28, of Greenbelt, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while impaired by alcohol, along with possession of drug paraphernalia and theft under $100, after a traffic stop in which the suspect’s vehicle was displaying a stolen registration sticker on the 7500 block of Greenbelt Road at 12:10 a.m. The suspect was released on citations pending trial. 

A robbery occurred on Gardenway near Ridge Road at 12:52 a.m. The suspects approached the victim, displayed a handgun and took the victim’s property. The suspects are described as two black males, 18 years old, 5’8”-5’10”, wearing black T-shirts and jeans.

An attempted murder occurred on the 5900 block of Cherrywood Lane at 5:45 p.m. The victim advised he was approached in the wooded area behind Cherrywood Lane by several suspects, one of whom fired a gun at him while the others assaulted him. The suspects are described as 8 Hispanic males, 19-20 years old, 5’6”, wearing white T-shirts and black jeans. 

Wayne Malchand Newman, Jr., 18, of Greenbelt, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia on the 5900 block of Greenbelt Road at 10:21 p.m. The suspect was released on citation pending trial.

July 3: A silver 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer with Maryland tags, reported stolen through the Montgomery County Police Department, was recovered on Rt. 201 near Pontiac Street. No arrests were made.

A computer tablet was taken from a vehicle on the 5800 block of Cherrywood Terrace.

July 4: An attempted robbery took place on the 7000 block of Mathew Street at 2:59 a.m. As a cab came to pick up a fare, the suspect emerged from the woodline with a handgun. The cab was able to flee the area and contact police. The suspect is described as a black male, 18-25 years old, wearing a black shirt. 

Shawn Darnell Walker, 24, of Oxon Hill, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop on Greenbelt Road and 62nd Avenue at 9:05 a.m. The suspect was released on citation pending trial. 

Morris Kamara, 24, of Lanham, was arrested and charged with trespassing on private property on the 9200 block of Springhill Lane at 3:41 p.m. The suspect was released on citation pending trial. 

Electronics were taken from a residence on the 5800 block of Cherrywood Terrace at 8:38 p.m.

A radio and clothes were taken from a vehicle on the 6100 block of Breezewood Court.

A Maryland temporary tag was taken from a vehicle 6200 block of Springhill Court.

July 5: An attempted burglary occurred on the 7800 block of Cloister Place at 8:30 a.m. 

Rugs and art were taken from a residence on the 6000 block of Springhill Drive at 6:18 p.m.

A strong armed robbery occurred on the 100 block of Centerway at 10:27 p.m. The suspects assaulted the victim and took his property. The suspects are described as two black males, 13-18 years old, 5’6”-5’10”, 130-140 pounds, black hair, brown eyes, wearing white or light-colored shirts and blue jeans. 

July 6: Electronics were taken from a residence on the 100 block of Westway at 9:09 a.m. 

A strong armed robbery occurred on the 6400 block of Ivy Lane at 5:11 p.m. The victim advised the suspect threw hot coffee on him and took his money. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a black shirt.

Kelley Lynn Anderson, 33, of Woodbridge, Virginia, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while impaired by alcohol, among other charges after a traffic stop on the 500 block of Crescent Road at 9:51 p.m. The suspect was released on citations pending trial. 

Jody Devon Wright, 20, of Hyattsville, was arrested and charged with trespassing on private property on the 9200 block of Springhill Lane at 10:50 p.m. The suspect was released to the Department of Corrections for hearing before a District Court Commissioner. 

A red 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle was taken on the 7700 block of Hanover Parkway. 

A silver 2005 Nissan Xterra with Maryland tags was recovered by Montgomery County Police on the 7700 block of Hanover Parkway. No arrests were made. 

July 7: Reckless endangerment was reported on the 8000 block of Mandan Road at 4:07 a.m. The sound of gun shots was reported and responding officers found two unoccupied vehicles had been struck by bullets.
