Police Arrest 3 Connected With Rash of Robberies

Three men have been arrested in connection with several armed robberies in the Riverdale area, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department. 

According to police, Marcus Jay Ford, 23, and Tyewon Lamente Batchelor, 20, admitted to being involved in the robberies. Ford, Batchelor and Anthony Tyrell Cooper, 20, face multiple charges. 

The three all live in the 900 block of Eastern Avenue in Northeast Washington.

"My Robbery Suppression Team members worked for nearly 40 straight hours to identify and successfully apprehend three extremely dangerous and violent suspects," Captain Jimmy Simms, Commander of the PGPD Regional Investigation Division’s (Northern Region) said in a statement.  

According to police, a patrol officer responded to the 6800 block of Riverdale Road at about 11:15 p.m. on August 23. A victim told police that he was delivering food when three men confronted him and ordered him to the ground at gunpoint. The men stole his belongings, including money, his phone and his shoes.

The next night at about 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a call in the 5000 block of 55th Avenue in Hyattsville. According to police, the robbers held suspects at gunpoint and stole money and a cell phone.

About a half hour later, police were called to the 6300 block of Auburn Avenue where robbers approached a victim who was walking down the street. He was also held at gunpoint while the robbers stole his money and cell phone.

During the investigation, detectives identified Ford as a suspect. He was arrested on the Maryland side of Eastern Avenue on August 25. Police searched Ford’s home. According to detectives, the evidence from the seizure led to the identification of Cooper and Batchelor as suspects. 

They were arrested on Monday, Aug. 26.

Police were able to retrieve many of the victims’ items and the handgun allegedly used in the robberies. 

The suspects are currently being held by the Department of Corrections.
