Man Missing For Three Hours

Police returned a man to his wife after he was reported missing Tuesday.

A Greenbelt police cruiser pulled up to Buddy Attick Park at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday returning a former missing man to the scene.

The man, former Greenbelt resident Ken Knorr, 81, was out walking with his wife Katie Knorr, 63, and their dog around Greenbelt Lake. Around 2:30 p.m. the group was walking near the peninsula when Ken told Katie he would take a break on a bench, both agreed to meet at the tennis courts.

"I got turned around," said Ken Knorr.

About a dozen police officers, members of the fire department, citizens, the K-9 officers and the United States Park helicopter helped to track down the missing man.

"A citizen called who reported what appeared to be a disoriented gentlemen on Research Road and just called in," said Special Operations Division Commander Thomas Kemp. "We had officers in that area too, but the citizen helped us find him faster."

Katie Knorr said she knew her husband would be OK. The couple, who now live in Pennsylvania, were in town for a doctor's appointment and said they were now going to spend the evening with their daughter that lives in nearby Calvert County.

"The working relationship with police and citizens with police scanners is why everything worked out so quickly. We had so much help," said Kemp.
