Update: Man Identified in Greenbelt Hit-and-Run

Bob Auerbach, a Maryland Green Party candidate, was hit Wednesday evening and died later that night.

Update, 11:01 p.m.: The Maryland Green Party reported that the man who died in the hit-and-run accident in Greenbelt Wednesday was former Maryland Green Party candidate for the US House of Representative in the 5th District—Robert Shipley Auerbach. 

Auerbach, 92, recently ran for office in November, but had run several times before.

Bob was born in New York City in 1919, was active with civil rights and progressive movements his entire life. He worked as a librarian and lived in Greenbelt for the past 50 years.

Original Post: The man struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening off Hanover Parkway has died from his injuries, a spokeswoman for the Greenbelt Police Department said.

According to Kelly Lawson, the driver fled the scene after striking the man near Ora Glen Drive around 6:27 p.m.

Police have not identified the victim who died around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, however, they have identified and recovered the suspect's vehicle. The investigation is continuing.

This is the second pedestrian fatality in Prince George's County in a 12-hour period. The other accident was in Ft. Washington Thursday morning.
