Man Airlifted After Fall at Franklin Park Apartments

The contractor lost feeling in one leg after dropping nearly 20 feet, officials said.

A contractor making repairs to an apartment building in Greenbelt, MD, fell an estimated 20 feet off a ladder Monday, sustaining injuries serious enough that emergency responders ordered him airlifted to a hospital.

The accident occurred in the 9200 block of Springhill Lane in Greenbelt, according to Prince George's County fire officials.

Firefighters and medics from the Berwyn Heights and volunteer fire departments responded to the scene about 8:30 a.m.

The man was conscious when medics arrived but told them he had lost feeling in one of his legs, officials said.

Due to the risk of spinal injury, the Maryland State Police's "Trooper 2" medevac helicopter was called in to transport the victim. 

With the assistance of the , the chopper landed nearby at College Park's Duval Field and airlifted the man to a specialty center, officials said.

Franklin Park Apartments did not respond to inquiries into the reason for the fall by post time.
