Magaw Honors Individuals With Chief’s Awards

Prince George's County Interim Police Chief Mark Magaw honored more than 80 individuals with the Chief's Award Wednesday.

Prince George’s County Interim Police Chief Mark Magaw honored locals who keep the county safe in an awards ceremony Wednesday.

More than 80 individuals; consisting of police officers, civilians and community members, were honored for acts of bravery. Some of the acts were recovery of vital evidence in criminal investigations, dismantling of an extensive drug organization and rendering first aid to choking and injured persons.

Citizens of all ages were recognized, even 11-year-old Robert Wallace who helped police nab two suspects that had just broken into his house. Wallace locked himself in an upstairs bedroom and called for help, which won him the Outstanding Citizenship Award then the officers who apprehended those suspects,  Officers Luis Perez and Michael Waters were awarded Letters of Commendation for their rapid response and arrest of the suspects.

“The hard work and dedication to duty demonstrated by the men and women that we are recognizing today is to be commended.  They have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field of law enforcement, and have set the example for the rest of us to follow,” Magaw said.
