Local Cops Receive Safety Honors
The Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission recognized four Greenbelt police officers for lifesaving traffic safety efforts.
Four Greenbelt police were recently designated Traffic Safety Specialist (TSS) by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.
The officers, Sgt. Gordon Pracht and Master Police officers Scott Kaiser, Scott Yankowy and Gordon Rose, were part of more than 100 Maryland officers to receive TSS 1 designations. Officer Kaiser was actually one of four officers in Maryland to receive the TSS 2 distinction.
"Traffic safety is a priority for the Police Department," Chief Jim Craze said. "Effective traffic enforcement is a primary function of public safety. Few people are affected by crime but everyone who travels our roadways has to deal with traffic issues one way or another."

TSS certification is open to all officers in the state of Maryland and recognizes them for their experience and training and proficiency in traffic enforcement procedures.
The multi-tiered program is actually a joint partnership between the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission, Maryland Chiefs of Police Association, Maryland Sheriff's Association and the Maryland Highway Safety Office.

"We are very proud that these officers have attained this professional training which will result in safer streets in Greenbelt," Craze said.
