Greenbelt Police Department Warns Against Phone Scams

Police advise caution with unknown callers.


The Greenbelt Police Department is advising residents to always exercise caution when asked to provide personal information over the phone to unknown callers—especially credit card information.

Neither the Greenbelt Police Department nor the Greenbelt Fraternal Order of Police Lodge solicit donations by telephone, according to a police press release.

Telemarketing fraud is a crime, says the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which warns that "Telephone scammers are good at what they do."
