Greenbelt Man Found Dead in West Lanham Hills

The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit is investigating the 23-year-old's death.

 

A Greenbelt man was found dead Monday evening by the side of the road on 78th Avenue in West Lanham Hills, police said.

At approximately 11:32 p.m. Monday, an ambulance unit from West Lanham Hills Fire Department observed a body in the 5000 block of 78th Avenue, according to a Prince George's County Police press release. When patrol officers arrived, they found Alfonso Edward Thompson, Jr., 23, of the 7000 block of Hanover Parkway in Greenbelt, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Thompson was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is working to identify the suspect(s) and establish a motive in the case, police said.
