Greenbelt Crime: Strong Armed Robberies, Multiple Burglaries

Crime reports from the Greenbelt Police Department through July 28.

Only one of the two strong armed robberies reported by Greenbelt Police from the past two weeks succeeded, but suspects in both cases have yet to be apprehended.

The first incident took place July 24 at 11:03 a.m. on the 6000 block of Greenbelt Road, police said. The victim was approached from behind by the suspect, who assaulted the victim and took his property, according to Greenbelt Police.

Police describe the suspect as an 18- to 25-year-old black man with a thin to medium build. At the time of the incident the suspect was wearing a dark colored shirt and operating a dark gray Nissan Altima with New Jersey tags containing the characters “D97.”

Another strong armed robbery was attempted July 29 at 10:53 a.m. on the 7500 block of Greenbelt Road, police said. The suspect approached the victim and attempted to take the victim’s property, police reported. The victim sprayed the suspect with mace and the suspect fled, police said.

Police describe the suspect as a black man who fled in a gray Honda Civic with a Maryland tag containing the numbers “75768.”

Center City

Recovered Stolen Vehicle: July 19, 8:27 p.m.; Route 495 at Kenilworth Avenue. A white Ford F250 with Pennsylvania tags, which had been reported stolen through the Baltimore City Police, was recovered. A Catonsville man was arrested and charged with motor vehicle theft. The suspect was released to the Department of Corrections for a hearing before a District Court Commissioner.

DUI/DWI Arrest: July 20, 3:30 a.m.; Kenilworth Avenue at Pontiac Street.

DUI/DWI Arrest: July 20, 3:47 a.m.; Greenbelt Road at Route 295 South Ramp.

Burglary: July 26, 2:52 p.m. 2 court Gardenway. Jewelry was taken. The suspect is described as a light-skinned male in his mid 30s. Police said he is 5 feet 9 inches tall and of a medium build.

DUI/DWI Arrest: July 27, 3:30 a.m.; Kenilworth Avenue at Westchester Park Drive.

DUI/DWI Arrest: July 28, 1:41 a.m.; Greenbelt Road at Route 295 South.

Vandalism: July 31, 9:18 a.m.; 4 court Southway. A window was broken.

Burglary: July 31, 9:44 p.m. 100 block of Westway. Nothing was taken. The suspect was described as a black man with dreadlocks who wore dark colored clothing. Police said he is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 180 lbs. The suspect fled in a small red vehicle.

Franklin Park, Beltway Plaza, Greenbelt Metro, Capitol Office Park

Vandalism: July 22, 5:57 p.m.; 6000 block of Springhill Drive. A sliding glass door was broken.

Trespassing: July 23, 2:47 p.m.; 9200 block Springhill Lane.

Vandalism: July 23, 5:21 p.m.; 5900 block Cherrywood Terrace. A sliding glass door was broken.

Armed Robbery: July 24, 9:13 a.m.; 6000 block of Greenbelt Road. A Greenbelt woman was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery after being apprehended by officers for robbing the Bank of America. The suspect was released to the Department of Corrections for a hearing before a District Court Commissioner.

Strong Armed Robbery: July 24, 11:03 a.m.; 6000 block of Greenbelt Road.

Drug Arrest: July 25, 5:20 p.m.; 5800 block of Cherrywood Lane.

Burglary: July 26, 1:32 a.m.; 6000 block of Springhill Drive. Electronics were taken.

Vandalism: July 26, 10:01 a.m.; 6200 block of Breezewood Court. A glass door was broken.

Burglary: July 30, 10:18 a.m.; 9100 block of Springhill Lane.

Vandalism: July 30, 5:45 p.m. ; 6000 block of Springhill Drive. A window was broken.

Burglary: July 30, 8:22 p.m.; 6200 block of Breezewood Drive. Electronics were taken.

Drug Arrest: July 31, 3:03 p.m.; 6100 block of Springhill Terrace.

Greenbelt East and Greenway Shopping Center

DUI/DWI Arrest: July 20, 3:48 a.m.; Greenbelt Road at Route 295. A 20-year-old Berwyn Heights man was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Driving While Impaired by Alcohol, among other charges after a traffic stop. The suspect was released on citations pending trial. A non-resident juvenile occupant was petitioned for Possession of Cocaine. The juvenile was released to a guardian pending action by the Department of Juvenile Services.

DUI/DWI Arrest: July 21, 2:05 a.m.; 7200 block of Hanover Parkway.

Attempted Strong Armed Robbery: July 29, 10:53 a.m.; 7500 block of Greenbelt Road.

Burglary: July 30, 12:20 p.m.; 7000 block of Megan Lane.

City-wide Automotive Crime

Theft from Automobile: July 19, 5800 block of Cherrywood Lane. An air compressor was taken.

Theft from Automobile: July 20, 8000 block of Mandan Road. Doors were taken from a vehicle.

Theft from Automobile: July 20, 6000 block of Greenbelt Road. A gas powered weed cutter was taken.

Vandalism: July 22, 7800 block of Walker Drive. A vehicle was scratched.

Attempted Theft of Automobile: July 24, 9300 block of Edmonston Road.

Stolen/Recovered Vehicle: July 24, 100 block of Westway. A green 1997 Chevrolet Suburban was taken and later recovered by the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia. No arrests were reported.

Theft from Automobile: July 25, Mandan Road at Hanover Parkway. A wallet, GPS unit and DVD radio were among the items taken.

Stolen Vehicle: July 27, 9100 block of Edmonston Road. A gray 1979 Ford F150 with Maryland tags was taken.

Vandalism: July 28, Springhill Court at Edmonston Road. A windshield and car windows were broken.

Vandalism: July 29, 100 block of Westway. A set of tires was damaged.

Theft from Automobile: July 31, 8200 block of Mandan Court. A front Maryland tag was taken.

Vandalism: July 31, 7800 block of Mandan Road. A car window was broken.
