Greenbelt Crime: Cutting, Armed Robbery, Nearly a Dozen DUIs

Crime reports from the Greenbelt Police Department through August 7.

A security officer is recovering from non-life threatening injuries after he was stabbed twice by a shoplifter last Sunday, according Greenbelt City Police.

The incident took place August 4 at 8:37 p.m. on the 6100 block of Greenbelt Road, police said. The security officer was attempting to stop a shoplifter when he was stabbed twice by the suspect, according to police. The suspect fled with an unknown amount of store property, police said. The injuries were not life-threatening and the victim refused medical treatment, according to police.

Police describe the suspect as a black man in his 50s. He is five feet 10 inches tall and weighs 165 lbs. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a black baseball hat, black reading glasses, a white muscle shirt and black swim trunks with the word “Guinness” on the side, police said.

Eleven DUIs and an armed robbery were among other significant crimes that took place this week.

DUI/DWI Arrest: August 3, 11:07 p.m.; Greenbelt Road at 63rd Avenue.

Trespassing: August 4, 2:17 p.m.; Breezewood Drive at Springhill Lane.

Cutting: August 4, 8:37 p.m.; 6100 block of Greenbelt Road.

Vandalism: August 5, 9:28 p.m.; 9100 block of Springhill Lane. A window was broken.

DUI/DWI Arrest: August 6, 8:50 p.m.; 5500 block of Cherrywood Lane.

Armed Robbery: August 7, 9:35 p.m.; 5900 block of Cherrywood Lane.

Greenbelt East and Greenway Shopping Center

Attempted Burglary: August 6, 8:46 p.m.; 7800 block of Hanover Parkway.

DUI/DWI Arrest: August 7, 8:56 p.m.; 8000 block of Mandan Road.

City-wide Automotive Crime

Recovered Stolen Vehicle: July 31, 7800 block of Mandan Road. A 2001 Chevrolet Suburban with Maryland tags was recovered by the Prince George’s County Police. No arrests were made.

Theft from Automobile: August 4, 9100 block of Edmonston Court. A cell phone was taken.

Stolen Vehicle: August 5, 6100 block of Springhill Terrace. A black 2001 Oldsmobile Alero with DC tags was taken.

Stolen Vehicle: August 5, 5800 block of Cherrywood Lane. A blue 2001 Ford E350 pickup truck with Maryland tags was taken.

Vandalism: August 6, 7600 block of Mandan Road. A car window was broken.
